Monte Mayor Golf & Country Club
Designer José Gancedo has created a masterpiece whose beautiful fairways wind between the peaks, traversing the gullies, ravines and streams that make the surroundings so memorable.
Situated within a private residential community, Monte Mayor is among the most challenging courses in the Marbella area, and is one that skilled golfers will certainly appreciate during their golfing holiday in Andalucia.
Marbella Golf and Country Club
From the tips, Marbella Golf and Country Club is 6,600 yards, which by today’s standards is relatively modest, but the subtle design formulated by RTJ serves up both fantastic entertainment and a stern challenge. Bordered by banks of indigenous bushes and scrub, the fairways twist and turn, demanding accurate driving and precision approach play.
Trent Jones’ creation is much loved by regular visitors to Marbella, and the town’s golf and country club remains among the most desirable golf holiday options along the Costa Del Sol.
Los Arqueros Golf & Country Club
Los Arqueros is a beautiful parkland course, set high in the Ronda hills within a private residential community. The layout was designed by the great Seve Ballesteros, and features relatively small greens that are not heavily bunkered, but have tricky slopes that are difficult to negotiate. Strategy is crucial to scoring well at Los Arqueros, which at 6,269 yards is not the longest test.
Melia La Quinta
San Pedro Course
San Pedro is the original course at La Quinta, and forms the backbone of the toughest course make-up. There is a good variety of holes, with some delightful par-3s being off-set by exacting long holes, where finding the correct position off the tee is crucial. The highlight is the 5th, where the fairway is banked on either side by mature pine trees and out-of-bounds.
Ronda Course
Named in honour of a beautiful local village, the Ronda course will test the precision and accuracy of every golfer with undulating fairways and fast, difficult greens. There are blind tee shots to be negotiated, while the most demanding proposition is undoubtedly the long 6th, requiring three good strikes to find the target.
Guadaiza Course
Set against the backdrop of the awe-inspiring Sierra Blanca mountain range, the Guadaiza is the newest addition to La Quinta Golf. It is also the longest of the three loops, demanding powerful and accurate drives. Negotiating the three successive par-5s is the key to mastering the Guadaiza.
La Quinta is home to the International Golf Academy, where Manuel Pinero leads an outstanding facility that runs dedicated tuition and instruction clinics.
La Cala Resort
Campo America Course
The Campo America is a very undulating and spectacular par-73 course, designed to manipulate the natural features of the terrain to create a formidable test of golf. Long drivers will have a distinct advantage as the course measures over 6,700 yards, but they must to avoid the deep gorges that line the fairways in order to score well.
Campo Asia Course
La Cala's Campo Asia Course is somewhat flatter than the Campo America, and is arguably a less severe test, but it still offers a considerable challenge for golfers of all abilities. On this tighter but slightly shorter golf course, accuracy is rewarded rather than brute power. The small landing areas make hitting an iron the prudent choice from many tees, as the punishment for wayward striking can be severe.
Campo Europa Course
Designer Cabell Robinson's brand new Campo Europa Course is equally as beautiful as the other La Cala golf courses, and is bordered by banks of rosemary, lavender and rockrose. The fairways are relatively generous from the tee and the greens are slightly larger than on the other two golf courses. The scenery is truly awe-inspiring, with the river Ojen playing a part in eight holes and cutting across three fairways.
In addition to the 54 holes of golf, there is also a recently renovated Golf Academy managed by the internationally renowned instructor, David Leadbetter. The practice and tuition facilities include a large driving range and a dedicated short-game area.
Test out your short game around La Cala's six hole short course, which is not only extremely entertaining but is perfect for sharpening those all important skills.
